Description

The cleanroom Air Shower enables ultra-rapid decontamination of personnel and maintains proper pressure cascades. The decontamination entry airlock can be used to supplement or replace a Personnel Airlock. Air showers are also used as equipment “dust collectors”.

The equipment must ensure and maintain clean air in the protected area. It must also ensure complete dedusting of operator suits or equipment as they cross between two zones using an air change system that filters particulate matter out at the lower end of the shower. A slight underpressure seals the shower off from upstream and downstream facilities.

The air shower is fitted with blower nozzles that deliver pressurised air at around 20m/sec.

The air shower is equipped with two doors either facing each other or at 90 degrees with a large dual-flush oculus, 300 DAN electromagnetic suction pad, and control panels comprising:
– green LED, red LED and emergency stop on the zone and changing room side
– green LED and emergency stop inside the shower

– Touchscreen cycle control

An automated timer system that sets the residence time of personnel in the air shower.

  • Filtration:

The air is blown through an H14 filtration system; exhaust air is pre-filtered G4 prior to recycling.

  • Ventilation:

Motor fan unit located above the shower, controlled by a frequency converter.

The shower serves as an airlock to the handling room. In this direction, the air shower operates in free entry, with door opening activated by a proximity sensor.

When this door closes following the operator’s entry, the door to the handling room opens. Failure to close this door will trigger the time-delay audible alarm.

On leaving the room, the operator touches the proximity sensor to open the door; once inside the air shower the door closes, and the ventilation system starts up for a cycle of approximately 30 to 50 seconds (adjustable). The operator rotates 360° during the ventilation cycle. At the end of the ventilation cycle, the exit door opens after a time delay, and the operator exits the shower.

To contain contamination, the ventilation system maintains a negative pressure in the shower throughout the blowing phase.

The shower is fitted with a “safety punch button” emergency stop used to open the door in an emergency. A programmable logic controller (PLC) manages the various cycles, and controls both the doors and ultra-filtered air ventilation times.

Ultra-filtered air is pulsed at high speed onto personnel at the shower exit to remove loose particulate matter.
